It all started when…
Chelsea is a Brooklyn based creator, working primarily with film and theatre. She has a particular niche in deeply character driven stories, and a morbid curiosity of dark or macabre themes through the lens of comedy. She is a company member of Hapa Media, and a founder of GirlSoup Collective, and a member of the Playwrighting and Director’s Unit at the legendary Actors Studio.
Selected favorite projects include: ‘Diner NYC’, a FLAG Art Film Productions feature film in collaboration with Harlem Children’s Zone and the 92Y with Shaquille O’Neal and Barry Levinson. ‘Unbridaled’, a short film which had its world premiere at Dances with Films at the historic Chinese Theatre, and East Coast premiere at Soho Film Fest, winning the Audience Award. ‘Woe is She’ an 8 part multi-award winning comedy about depression, Woe won the NYWIFT Award for Best Web Series, and then was granted one year of distribution on RokuTV. ‘Radical’ a new play written by Sergio Castillo, selected to perform in the Sanctuary Series at HERE Arts Center, followed by an invited podcast performance at The Parsnip Ship, and invited presentation at the 2017 North Carolina NAACP Conference.
She served as the Co-Executive Director of the ASDS Rep Season at 80 Greenwich Street for the 2019-2022 seasons, producing more than 25 fully produced plays. She was recently Executive Producer for New Place Player’s new version of Othello off broadway, transforming a former sculpture foundry into an immersive theatre space. She is currently in pre-production directing a new horror dark comedy feature film, Outen the Light, written by Emmy Award winning Michael Lamarra, set to shoot with GirlSoup Collective in the summer of 2023.
